The Canary Islands are set to receive 60% of the revenue generated by British tourism in Spain this winter, according to the Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jéssica de León.

During the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, she emphasised the significant economic contribution of visitors from the UK and urged stakeholders to "break the myth that British travellers do not economically benefit the Islands," highlighting the vital role British tourists play in the archipelago's economy.

The average daily expenditure of a British tourist in the Canary Islands stands at €128.60, which is 7% above the national average and 12% higher than that of the German market, highlighting the importance of British visitors for the Canary Islands' economy.

Tourism Statistics

In 2023, the British market accounted for 31% of the total tourists and 35% of the overall revenue in the Canary Islands. These figures are projected to rise during the winter months, as more than half of British tourists visiting Spain choose the islands as their winter destination.

With the upcoming winter season, the Canary Islands are poised to further capitalise on the influx of British tourists. The local government and tourism authorities are implementing strategies aimed at enhancing visitor experiences and maximising economic benefits from this key market.
