Scare on beach in south Tenerife as runaway van speeds onto the sand

Beachgoers were left shocked on Tuesday afternoon when a runaway van with no one in it rolled at high speed across the promenade and onto the beach in El Médano, narrowly avoiding a serious accident.

According to reports, the van entered the beach area after it started moving because the handbrake was not engaged properly, gathering momentum before crossing the pedestrian walkway and finally coming to a halt on the sand.

The incident took place on one of Tenerife’s most popular beaches in the south of the island, which was busy with locals and holidaymakers at the time.

Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties, although the event caused considerable alarm among those on the beach. Lifeguards and members of the public quickly intervened to help stop the vehicle, preventing what could have been a far more serious outcome.

Local authorities have reminded drivers of the importance of ensuring their vehicles are properly secured, especially in coastal areas where gradients and busy pedestrian walkways pose additional risks.
