The atmosphere was electric at the final round of the Liga Nacional de Fuerza (LNF) in Elche, as fans gathered to witness the ultimate showdown of strength. Among the athletes, one name stood out: El Vikingo from Tenerife, who delivered an awe-inspiring performance to win the final round and claim the title of Subcampeón (Runner-Up) for the 2024 season.

British athlete, El Vikingo, whose real name is Matthew Riddall, showcased raw power and determination across a gruelling lineup of events despite being the oldest man in the league at 42 years old. The competition featured the league's classic challenges, including the Atlas Stones, Tyre Flip, and the crowd-favourite Truck Pull.

El Vikingo was unstoppable, dominating the Yoke Walk, where he carried an astonishing 400kg frame over a 20-metre distance in record time. In the Log Lift, his precision and explosive power earned him maximum points, thrilling fans who roared with approval. The final nail in the coffin was his flawless execution in the Deadlift, where he hoisted 350 kg with seeming ease, cementing his victory for the round.

After this stunning performance, Riddall continued his record run of podiums and was confirmed as the Subcampeón for the second time in 3 years, the overall Masters champion, and the most decorated Canaries-based athlete in this sport of all time.

A Hard-Fought Season

Despite his brilliance in the final round, the overall title of LNF champion went to 22-year-old Gianluca Ardenghi from Tarragona, who led the league with consistent performances throughout the season, after being runner-up in 2023. However, El Vikingo’s late-season surge and victory in the finale secured him the runner-up spot, a remarkable achievement in a field filled with seasoned strongmen.

"I gave it my all today, and I'm proud of what I've achieved," said Riddall, beaming as he received his award. "The competition this year was fierce, and finishing as Subcampeón in such a prestigious league is an honour. Next year, I'll be aiming for the top spot."

Looking Ahead

As the curtains close on the 2024 season of the Liga Nacional de Fuerza, attention now shifts to the future. With El Vikingo vowing to return stronger than ever and a league filled with hungry competitors, next season promises to be even more thrilling.

For now, fans celebrate the achievements of a man who embodied the spirit of the competition—strength, resilience, and an indomitable will.

El Vikingo may not have clinched the top title, but his victory in the final round and his ascent to Subcampeón for the third time prove that the saga of this modern-day warrior is far from over.
