Police discover drugs hidden at Kasbah Shopping Centre in Playa del Inglés

The Local Police of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, aided by their canine unit, have discovered six blocks of hashish hidden under a staircase at the Kasbah Shopping Centre in Playa del Inglés, in the south of Gran Canaria.

The discovery was made during a routine patrol Saturday by "Peka," a specially trained police dog, who detected the drugs.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:30am while officers were patrolling on foot along Avenida de Tenerife. As they approached the shopping complex, Peka abruptly stopped under one of the access staircases and signalled the presence of narcotics.

Upon inspection, officers uncovered six pieces of a brown substance with a distinct odour, each measuring about 4.5 centimetres in length, which was identified as hashish resin.

Police believe the hashish was stashed under the staircase by local drug dealers involved in small-scale operations in the area.

This discovery highlights the ongoing efforts of the police to combat drug distribution in popular tourist zones like Playa del Inglés. Investigations are continuing to identify those responsible for the hidden narcotics.
