Police are hunting a Scottish holidaymaker who headbutted a Guardia Civil officer

The Guardia Civil are looking for a Scottish holidaymaker who headbutted one of their officers after they were asked to question him when he arrived at Lanzarote airport last Friday because he was causing a disturbance on a plane that had just landed from Scotland.

After they identified him as he walked off the plane, they took him to one side to identify him, but instead of showing them his passport, he headbutted one of the policemen in the face causing him injuries.

Because of this they called for backup and arrested the Scottish tourist on charges of attacking a law enforcement agent, and took the injured officer to hospital for treatment.

However, in a strange turn of events, there was a quick trial on Sunday, which can be called in these cases involving holidaymakers, but to the amazement of the injured officer and his lawyer, the tourist didn’t show up in court because he had been ‘wrongly’ released.

There is now an investigation into who released him and why, as well as a search for the Scottish holidaymaker in tourist areas of Lanzarote as they believe he is still on the island and want him to appear in court.

In a statement, the Guardia Civil said: "The aggressor continues to evade justice after hitting a Guardia Civil agent because ‘someone’ decided to release him. We hope that this surreal situation will be resolved."
