LGBTIQA+ Pride march in Tenerife: time and route details

The streets of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be filled with colour and celebration tonight, Saturday 29th June, as the island’s annual LGBTIQA+ Pride march takes place under the slogan “Against hate, pride and community.”

Organised by Tenerife’s main LGBTIQA+ associations, the demonstration aims to champion diversity, defend rights, and reject hate speech, with organisers calling on everyone, including social groups, feminist and environmental organisations, trade unions, political parties, and the wider public, to help make it a “massive and defiant” event.

The march set off at 6:00 pm from Plaza Weyler, in the heart of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and will finish at Plaza del Cabildo, where the event will close with the reading of a manifesto on the main stage of the ‘Festivalullo’, a Pride-themed cultural festival.

The route and symbolic stops

The demonstration will proceed along Calle Méndez Núñez, the tree-lined Ramblas of Santa Cruz, and Avenida Francisco La Roche.

Two symbolic stops are planned along the way:

  • One at Parque García Sanabria, regarded as a historic site for Tenerife’s first Pride march in 1978.
  • Another at the Monument to the Fallen Angel, which organisers describe as a “vestige of fascism that must be met with pride and resistance.”

Who is behind the march?

Among the associations leading this year’s demonstration are Diversas, Libertrans, Transwomen, Transboys, Aperttura, Fundación Pedro Zerolo, and the LGBTIQ+ Association of Tacoronte Comarca de Acentejo. Their joint statement emphasises that the main goal is to “honour the memory of Pride in Tenerife and reject hate speech that affects the most vulnerable members of the community.”

Also in Gran Canaria

Meanwhile, a parallel demonstration under the same slogan will take place in Gran Canaria, starting at 7:00 pm from the Edificio de los Taxistas on Avenida José Mesa y López, concluding at Parque Santa Catalina. This march has been organised by the groups Gamá and Chrysallis Canarias.

If you plan to attend, expect lively crowds, music, banners and a strong atmosphere of celebration and protest combined. Local authorities typically advise participants to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and look out for each other, especially given the warm summer evenings.
