A man who had been reported missing by his family has been found dead on the coast of Tinajo in Lanzarote. The man, aged 60, had been missing since Thursday, prompting a search operation involving the Guardia Civil and the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium.
Emergency crews were mobilised to the La Santa area at around 10:00am on Friday, with firefighters joining Guardia Civil officers involved in the search. Due to the difficult coastal terrain, emergency teams deployed a drone to carry out an aerial search of the area.
The drone subsequently located the missing man in a coastal location that was difficult to reach on foot. His position was immediately passed to those coordinating the operation, including the emergency services control centre.
Teams from the Consortium and Guardia Civil then made their way towards the location, while additional resources were organised to recover the body.
Because of the difficulties accessing the area, a helicopter from the Canary Islands Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) was brought in to carry out the recovery.
Officers from the Guardia Civil's Judicial Police team in Costa Teguise also attended and have taken responsibility for investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
Initial information indicates that there were no apparent signs of violence on the body.
The man's family had reported him missing the previous day, leading to the search operation being activated. No further details about his identity have been officially released.
