Man dies after 7-metre fall while putting up Christmas lights in Lanzarote

A man in his fifties died on Saturday in Lanzarote, after falling from the roof of his home while installing Christmas lights, according to the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The incident occurred at around 2:40pm on Calle Chimia in the Altavista area of Arrecife. Emergency services received a call reporting that a man had fallen from the exterior of a building. Paramedics arrived quickly, but were only able to confirm his death at the scene.
According to witnesses who spoke to Televisión Canaria, the man had been standing on a ladder on the rooftop while putting up festive lighting when the accident happened. Testimonies suggest he fell approximately 7.5 metres, hitting his head on the street below.
The National Police has opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the fall. Local Police units and a medicalised ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) also attended the scene.
The tragic incident has shocked the local community as preparations for the festive season get under way.
