Injured hiker rescued from Masca Valley in Tenerife by helicopter

A 44-year-old man had to be rescued yesterday morning (Saturday) after injuring himself while hiking in the Masca valley on the west coast of Tenerife, as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

The incident occurred just before 10 o’clock yesterday morning, when the 1-1-2 call centre received an alert requesting medical assistance for a hiker who had suffered a fall in the aforementioned area.

CECOES dispatched the fire brigade, to rescue the man from the ravine, an ambulance, the Guardia Civil, and a GES helicopter to Masca to attend to him as he was in an area difficult to access by land vehicle.

Firemen were the first on the scene and managed to reach the man, who couldn’t walk due to a multiple leg injury and carried him to an agreed extraction point for the helicopter which flew him to the La Guancha helipad near Los Realejos.

There, an ambulance met them to take him to the Hospital del Norte for further treatment.
