Hundreds face losing their jobs as Jet2 decides to stop resort flight check-in service

Jet2’s exclusive Free Resort Flight Check-in service is something customers love as it allows them to check in their bags at the hotel in the morning on their day of departure, leaving them bag-free for the rest of the day and at the airport.

However, it’s come to light that hundreds of employees in resorts across Spain and the Canary Islands, stand to lose their jobs as the UK’s biggest tour operator is stopping the service and has started procedures for a “mass redundancy”.

Jet2holidays first launched its Free Resort Flight Check-in service in 2016 and was immediately popular with holidaymakers, however, it only restarted last June after they stopped operating it because of the pandemic, and many people left jobs to join Jet2 which they are now going to lose after just 10 months.

The airline has sent a communication regarding the 996 staff based at airports in Alicante, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura, informing that they are opening negotiations with unions within the next 30 days to find a resolution for the redundancy of around 35% of these employees.

At the time of going to press, there is no confirmation of a date that the Resort Flight Check-in service is finishing, nor when the staff that operate will be finding out the fate regarding their futures.
