A 65-year-old male holidaymaker is in critical condition after being rescued from a swimming pool at a hotel in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, according to reports from the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The incident occurred yesterday morning (Thursday) which is when CECOES received a 1-1-2 distress call reporting that the man had been pulled unconscious from the pool in a suspected state of cardiac arrest.
A lifeguard at the hotel immediately performed basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while waiting for emergency medical personnel to arrive.
Upon their arrival, paramedics confirmed that the man showed signs of drowning and required immediate resuscitation and continued with advanced manoeuvres, successfully restoring the man’s pulse.
Once stabilised, he was transported via ambulance to Dr. José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife, where he was admitted in critical condition for further treatment.
This incident serves as a reminder of the vital role of trained personnel and emergency services in responding to life-threatening situations.
