A new eviction and clean-up operation has been carried out along the Tenerife coastline between La Mareta and Agua Dulce in Los Abrigos, within the municipality of Granadilla de Abona in the south of the island.

The joint operation involved teams from the Provincial Coastal Authority, Local Police, Guardia Civil, and municipal services, including staff from the public company Sermugran. Around a dozen people were occupying the area at the time, all of whom left voluntarily without incident.

The action forms part of ongoing efforts to address informal settlements along this stretch of the coast. Authorities had previously informed those living in the area of the exact date of the eviction, allowing the process to take place in an orderly manner.

This marks the fourth such operation carried out in the last few years in the same area of the coast. However, officials acknowledge a recurring issue: once cleared, these areas are often reoccupied within a relatively short period.

In response, the Provincial Coastal Authority has introduced regular monitoring of the area, although it admits that a more sustained presence will be needed to prevent further reoccupation.

Ongoing Concerns in Ravine Areas

Granadilla de Abona is home to several informal settlements along the coastline between Los Abrigos and El Médano. The most significant is located in the Los Balos ravine area and near the cave of Hermano Pedro, where it is estimated that around 100 people are currently living illegally.

Local authorities have been working alongside the police and coastal authorities to address the situation. Following recent meetings involving environmental officials, both administrations have been tasked with processing the necessary permits to allow further intervention in the affected area.
