Four people have been arrested following raids on shops allegedly selling counterfeit football shirts and other goods in Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas.

A fifth person has been placed under investigation in connection with suspected trademark offences. All five were responsible for businesses inspected during the police operation.

The investigation began after representatives of several well-known brands reported the suspected sale of fake products at shops in the area.

Police enquiries identified several businesses allegedly offering clothing and accessories carrying protected branding without permission.

Officers then carried out simultaneous inspections at a number of premises. Experts appointed by the affected brands also took part to help establish whether the goods were counterfeit.

Around 2,000 suspected fake items were seized, including football shirts, other sportswear and accessories. Police said the goods would have been worth approximately €210,000 if they had been genuine.

The four people arrested were handed over to the relevant judicial authorities, while the fifth remains under investigation.
