A drone was used to deliver essential medication to a family cut off by flooding in Gran Canaria on Sunday, after severe weather destroyed access to their home.

The incident took place in El Caidero, in the upper part of the Arguineguín ravine, where heavy runoff caused by Storm Therese washed away part of the road, leaving residents isolated.

Local Police in Mogán carried out the operation. Officers travelled as close as possible to the damaged area, where the road had been swept away, before deploying a drone to transport the urgently needed medication across the inaccessible terrain.

The innovative response ensured the family received their treatment despite being completely cut off by the flood damage.

Mogán’s mayor, Onalia Bueno, praised the officers’ quick thinking and professionalism, sharing the incident on social media and publicly congratulating the local police team for their efforts.
