Police have reported that they have caught several groups of people ignoring strict safety restrictions during Storm Therese, as the Guardia Civil stepped-up enforcement across the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Despite clear warnings, road closures, and sealed-off areas, several people have been found deliberately entering dangerous areas at the height of the alert, putting both themselves and emergency services at risk.

The most serious breach took place in Laguna Grande, where 19 people were caught hiking in restricted terrain during severe weather conditions.

The group, made up of tourists and led by a professional guide working for a local excursion company, had ignored official restrictions and bypassed safety cordons put in place to prevent accidents.

Officers intercepted the group and halted the activity, highlighting growing concerns among authorities about people disregarding safety measures during the storm.

The Guardia Civil has confirmed it is maintaining an increased presence across all of the western Canary Islands, actively monitoring access points, enforcing road closures, and clearing prohibited areas.

Officials have issued a stark warning: those who ignore the rules face fines and are risking their lives, as well as the safety of rescue teams who may be called out to assist them.

With dangerous weather conditions ongoing, authorities are urging residents and visitors alike to respect all restrictions and avoid unnecessary outdoor activity.
