Seventeen people have been arrested in a major police operation targeting heroin and crack trafficking in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The early morning raids focused on the San José area and the San Cristóbal industrial estate, where officers moved in on properties linked to a suspected criminal network.

The coordinated operation began at 5.30am yesterday (Tuesday), with police searching eleven properties at the same time. The aim was to dismantle an organised group believed to be supplying hard drugs in the area.

The investigation was led by specialist organised crime officers and began in November after authorities noticed a constant flow of drug users gathering near several buildings. Surveillance over four months revealed daily activity, with buyers arriving early in the morning and waiting for signals to enter properties used for drug sales.

Police say some of the flats were being used not only to sell drugs but also as places where users could consume them. Officers also uncovered a structured network, with people assigned specific roles including leadership, sales, street-level dealing and lookouts.

The group’s methods were consistent, with buyers reportedly gaining access to properties after a simple signal from those controlling entry. In some cases, drugs were handed over inside the buildings, while in others they were hidden nearby and collected after payment.

During the investigation, officers intercepted several suspected buyers, recovering small quantities of heroin and crack. The repeated activity confirmed ongoing drug dealing in the area, which raised concerns for local residents.

The operation remains ongoing, with all 17 suspects expected to appear in court. They are being investigated for alleged offences linked to organised crime and drug trafficking.
