A 21-year-old man has been stabbed in Tenerife after an apparent dispute over a drug-related debt in La Laguna. The incident happened on Saturday night and has led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder and assault.

According to reports, the victim and a friend went to a property in the Las Mantecas area to collect money allegedly owed for drugs. The confrontation took place inside a residential building, where an argument quickly escalated into violence.

Police say the suspect is a regular drug user and allegedly produced a kitchen knife during the altercation. He is accused of stabbing the 21-year-old in the upper abdomen and attempting to attack the second young man, who managed to avoid being injured.

The suspect then allegedly tried to continue the attack while the injured man was on the ground, but was unsuccessful. Both victims managed to escape on an electric scooter and sought help nearby before making their way to hospital.

Medical staff treated the injured man and alerted police after identifying signs of a violent assault. Officers later spoke to the victim at the hospital and identified his companion outside the building.

An investigation by La Laguna Local Police led officers to the suspect’s address, where he was arrested at the entrance to his building. He admitted being involved in a fight but denied using a knife.

The man has been charged with attempted murder and assault and was taken into custody at the National Police station in La Laguna. He is expected to appear in court shortly.
