Residents in Santa Cruz de Tenerife were left stunned after a wall suddenly collapsed, triggering a domino effect that sent cars crashing down onto vehicles below, leaving seven vehicles badly damaged.
The incident happened shortly after 5:00pm today (Wednesday)in the Valleseco area of the capital, in the upper part of the Naranjo Agrio ravine, when a loud bang, described by residents as “like an explosion”, echoed through the neighbourhood.
Within seconds, three cars parked on an upper road were pushed over the edge, slamming onto four more vehicles below and causing extensive damage.
Residents rushed out of their homes in alarm, unsure what had happened.
One neighbour, who had a narrow escape after just unloading shopping from his car before it fell down the hillside, said the collapse happened “in an instant”. He is now waiting to find out whether his car, bought just seven months ago, has been written off.
Emergency services, including police and firefighters, quickly secured the area and assessed the stability of the ground amid concerns of further collapse.
Public Works councillor Javier Rivero arrived around 90 minutes later to speak with affected residents and coordinate the response with council technicians.
Despite the scale of the incident, no injuries were reported. Authorities are continuing to monitor the area, warning that recent severe weather has left ground conditions unstable.
