A Canaryfly aircraft was forced to abort its landing at Lanzarote Airport during strong winds on Sunday evening. The flight landed safely on its second attempt, around 12 minutes behind schedule.

The aircraft was arriving from Gran Canaria when it briefly touched the runway before taking off again at approximately 8.10pm. The manoeuvre is known as a go-around and is used when the crew cannot be certain that it is safe to complete a landing. It is a standard aviation safety procedure in challenging conditions.

Wind gusts at Lanzarote Airport reached up to 75 kilometres per hour at 7:00pm and remained above 65 kilometres per hour at 8:00pm. Average wind speeds were close to 50 kilometres per hour.

Lanzarote was under an official wind pre-alert issued by the Canary Islands Government’s emergency authorities at the time.
