Cyclist injured after being knocked off his bike in Teide National Park

A 22-year-old cyclist was injured yesterday (Thursday) after being knocked off his bike by a car close to Teide National Park. The incident happened shortly after 5:00pm at kilometre 7 on the TF-38, which is the access road to Teide from the south west of Tenerife through Chio.

The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert from staff at Teide National Park at the 112 call centre informing them of the accident, requesting urgent medical assistance for the cyclist.

SUC medical personnel treated him for ‘moderate’ injuries sustained in the accident and transferred him to Hospiten Sur Hospital for further treatment, where, barring any complications he is expected to make a full recovery

The Guardia Civil were also present at the scene of the accident and have opened an investigation into how the incident occurred, ascertaining whether either the car or the bike were speeding, had crossed into the wrong lane, or if it was the result of the driver of the car not giving enough space when overtaking the cyclist.
