Cyclist airlifted to hospital in critical condition in South Tenerife

A 65-year-old cyclist is in a critical condition after suffering a serious fall in the Lomo la Hoya area of San Miguel de Abona in south Tenerife.

The accident happened shortly after midday yesterday (Tuesday), prompting a major emergency response. Due to the severity of his injuries, the man was airlifted by a medical helicopter to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz.

Emergency services said the cyclist suffered multiple serious injuries and was treated before being transferred to hospital. Medical teams from the Canary Islands Emergency Service, supported by healthcare staff from San Isidro, assessed the man and determined that urgent air transport was necessary.

A medical helicopter was sent to carry out the evacuation, while local police officers also arrived to assist the emergency crews during the operation.

At this stage, no further details have been released about the circumstances of the accident. It is not yet known whether any other vehicle was involved.
