Covid update: The Canaries add 1,147 new cases and three deaths today

The Ministry of Health has notified of 1,147 new cases of coronavirus in the Canary Islands today, taking the total accumulated number of cases in the Islands to 263,401 with 104,582 still active. Of these 83 are admitted to ICU and 583 remain hospitalized in wards. In the 24 last hours, the death of three people in Tenerife has been reported, pending validation by the General Directorate of Public Health because it is the weekend.

The incidence rate over 7 days in the Canary Islands now stands at 314.12 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and over 14 days it has dropped to 870.24 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

By islands, Tenerife today has the most new cases with 462 and there are 48,933 active cases on the island; Gran Canaria has added 461 more cases and has 45,093 active. Lanzarote has 43 new cases and 2,924 epidemiologically active; Fuerteventura adds 81 new cases and 6,782 actives. La Palma adds 80 new positives today, El Hierro adds 16, and La Gomera adds four.

Yesterday the SCS continued to vaccinate children aged 5 to 11 years old, and for the first time took the Vacuna Buses to several schools in Tenerife and Gran Canaria where children in that age group, with permission from their parents, received their first jab which is a third dose of Pfizer specially formulated for paediatric vaccination.

Next week they will continue with schools in the capitals of the two islands, before moving into other areas.
