Cooler temperatures and light rains expected in the north of the islands this Thursday

The Canary Islands are set to experience a drop in temperatures and have light showers today, Thursday, according to the latest forecast from the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

The forecast indicates that the northern parts of the islands, particularly in mid-altitude areas, are likely to see sporadic rain, especially during the second half of the day. Cooler temperatures are also expected in these areas and on the island's summits.

Winds and Sea Conditions:

The northeast trade winds are expected to blow occasionally strong on the southeastern and northwestern slopes of the islands. However, calmer breezes will prevail in southwestern coastal areas of the mountainous islands.

In terms of sea conditions, northeast winds will blow at force 4 or 5 across most coastal areas of the archipelago, with some spots on La Palma, Tenerife, La Gomera, and Gran Canaria potentially experiencing stronger gusts of force 6 or even 7.

The sea state will range from moderate to rough, with a northerly swell of 1 to 2 metres in height. Additionally, isolated and occasional showers are not ruled out in the northern regions.

Island-by-Island Forecast:

Tenerife:

Most of the island will see partly cloudy skies, but it will be overcast in the north, where light, occasional showers are expected in mid-altitude areas during the second half of the day.

Temperatures will drop in inland areas and at summits, especially on the northern slopes, while the south of the island will see little change. Strong trade winds will blow in the southeast and extreme northwest, with breezes on the southwestern coasts.
Expected temperatures: High of 29°C and a low of 23°C.

Lanzarote:

The day will start with partly cloudy skies, becoming clearer during the afternoon. Overcast skies will dominate the western areas during the early and late hours. Temperatures are expected to remain steady, with occasional strong trade winds.
Expected temperatures: High of 27°C and a low of 22°C.

Fuerteventura:

Similar to Lanzarote, Fuerteventura will see partly cloudy skies in the morning, clearing by the afternoon. Temperatures will remain unchanged, with occasional strong trade winds.
Expected temperatures: High of 27°C and a low of 21°C.

Gran Canaria:

The northern part of the island will experience mostly cloudy skies with a chance of light, occasional rain in mid-altitude areas, particularly in the second half of the day. The rest of the island will see mostly clear skies.

Temperatures will remain steady, except for a notable drop in maximum temperatures in inland areas, particularly on the southern and western slopes. Trade winds will be strong at times in the southeast and northwest, while breezes will prevail on the southwestern coasts.
Expected temperatures: High of 28°C and a low of 23°C.
