Cloudier skies and rising swells expected across the Canaries on Thursday
Tourists and residents in the Canary Islands should expect a predominantly cloudy Thursday, particularly across the northern sides of the islands, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Conditions out at sea will also be more unsettled, with strong northeasterly winds (force 4 to 6) generating rough to very rough seas. A north-westerly swell of 1–2 metres is forecast to build throughout the day, reaching 3–4 metres, posing potential risks for beach-goers and coastal activities. The western coasts will be calmer with lighter, variable winds and slight seas.

TENERIFE
Cloudy intervals in the north and northeast with a low chance of light, brief showers overnight. High cloud elsewhere, with some low cloud in the west later in the day. Temperatures steady or slightly rising in high altitude areas. Moderate northeasterly winds, stronger on the southeast slopes and northwestern tip, where very strong gusts are possible. Breezes along the western coast.

GRAN CANARIA
Cloudier skies in the north and northeast with a small chance of light rain overnight. High cloud elsewhere. Temperatures unchanged. Moderate northeasterly winds increasing on the southeastern and northwestern slopes and at high altitude, with occasional strong or very strong gusts, especially in the morning. Light coastal breezes in the southwest.
Temperatures: 19°C min / 22°C max.
LANZAROTE
Mostly clear skies with some high and low cloud early in the day. Temperatures stable. Moderate northeasterly winds, strengthening in the early morning and later along the east coast and western slopes.
Temperatures: 17°C min / 22°C max.
FUERTEVENTURA
Similar to Lanzarote: mainly clear with occasional cloud in the first half of the day. Little change in temperature. Moderate northeasterly winds with some strong gusts on the east and west coasts overnight and briefly in the afternoon.
Temperatures: 17°C min / 21°C max.
Anyone planning coastal activities such as swimming, surfing, or ferries should take extra care due to the increasing swell, and drivers in the north of the islands are advised to remain cautious in cloudier and breezier conditions.
