Three people have been arrested after three gold bars worth around €12,000 were stolen from a home in La Laguna while renovation work was being carried out.

The investigation began after the homeowner reported that the gold bars had disappeared from the property during the building work.

The owner had employed someone to manage the renovation, who in turn hired several workers who had access to the property.

The National Police focused their investigation on those who had entered the house during the period in which the gold disappeared.

Officers eventually established that the three bars had been sold to different gold-buying businesses in the north and south of Tenerife.

Two people suspected of carrying out the transactions were identified and arrested, and police successfully recovered all three of the stolen gold bars.

Information obtained during the investigation then led officers to a third person suspected of planning and organising the theft.

That person was later found and arrested.

All three suspects have been placed before the relevant judicial authorities.
