A cayuco carrying 191 irregular migrants from sub-Saharan Africa arrived at the port of Los Cristianos In the early hours of yesterday morning (Wednesday), according to sources from Maritime Rescue.
The boat was first spotted by a fishing boat around 4:45am near Callao Salvaje in the south of Tenerife.
Upon receiving the alert, the Maritime Rescue vessel, Salvamar Alpheratz, was dispatched to escort the cayuco to the port, where it was met by the Red Cross, medical personnel, and the National Police shortly after 7:15am when all of the migrants disembarked safely.
Among the 191 people on board were 22 minors (13 unaccompanied) and a baby. This latest arrival is just one of many as migratory numbers from Africa to the Canary Islands increase due to the calmer waters in summer.
