In an effort to support families with dependent children, the Social Security has introduced a one-off payment of €1,000 for eligible households in 2025.
This measure, implemented under Royal Decree-Law 6/2019, aims to enhance child welfare and alleviate financial burdens on the most vulnerable families.
To qualify for this financial aid, applicants must meet specific requirements. The primary condition is having children born on or after 1st January 2007.
Additionally, applicants must adhere to income and Social Security-related stipulations designed to ensure the payment is directed towards families with the greatest need.
Income and Family Requirements
Eligibility is determined based on household income thresholds, which vary depending on the number of children and family circumstances. Documentation confirming annual income and family composition is required during the application process.
For instance, families with one child must have an income below 14.011 euros, while the threshold rises to 16.112,65 euros for two children and 18.214,30 euros for three. These thresholds increase incrementally with the number of children, prioritising larger families.
Households with incomes slightly above the limits may still receive partial payments, adjusted proportionally to their income levels.
Applicants must also demonstrate legal residency in Spain and affiliation with the Social Security system. For those aged over 26, a minimum contribution period of 180 days in the past seven years or 360 days throughout their working life is necessary. Younger parents, under 26 years of age, have less stringent contribution requirements, facilitating access for younger families.
Certain groups, such as large families, single-parent households, and families with members who have a disability of 65% or higher, are given priority. This approach ensures additional support is available for households facing greater challenges.
Application Process and Payment
The application process has been streamlined to offer convenience. The fastest way to apply is through the Social Security’s Electronic Headquarters, using a digital certificate. Applications can also be submitted via post or in person at Social Security Information and Assistance Centres (CAISS) with a prior appointment.
Once approved, the €1,000 payment is transferred directly to the applicant’s bank account. This financial support is compatible with other forms of assistance, such as parental leave payments, allowing families to combine multiple benefits without restrictions.
