A bakery worker in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria managed to stop an attempted armed robbery after two hooded men threatened her with a pistol early in the morning and demanded money from the business.

The incident happened at around 7:00am on 4th June in the La Vega de San José neighbourhood. According to reports, the employee had only recently started her shift when the two suspects approached the bakery shortly after opening.

The men were both described as being around 25 years old and dressed in dark clothing. They reportedly remained at the entrance and did not enter the premises. One of them allegedly pointed a pistol at the woman's head while the pair announced they were carrying out a robbery.

Despite the threat, the employee reacted quickly. During a moment of distraction, she pushed one of the suspects away, broke free and ran into a storage room, where she locked the door and called the police.

Realising their attempt had failed, the two men ran away without taking any money. It is not yet known whether the weapon used was a real firearm or an imitation.

Officers from the National Police arrived within minutes, but the suspects had already escaped. An investigation is now underway to identify and find the two men.
