Three international fugitives arrested in Tenerife in five days over Christmas

The National Police have arrested three men in Tenerife in the last five days, all wanted for individual crimes and not related in any way, who have arrest warrants against them from their respective countries of the Czech Republic, Poland, and Russia for committing crimes of aggravated extortion, embezzlement, and fraud.

The first one arrested was a 53-year-old man, wanted by the authorities of the Czech Republic for various crimes of aggravated extortion, found living in the municipality of Arona in the south of Tenerife, where he resided in a secluded house, according to yesterday’s official press release from the National Police.

At the time he was identified he tried to flee on foot but was stopped by the officers who, after apparently putting up great resistance, managed to restrain him.

The second fugitive arrested is a 36-year-old man who was wanted by the Polish authorities for a crime against the economic and fiscal order, in this case, embezzlement of public funds.

Investigators discovered that he had also been living in Tenerife for "quite a few years”, and that the Polish authorities had a warrant out for him since January 2018.

This particular man was located on Boxing Day (December 26th), and allegedly tried to avoid arrest by showing fake identity documents described as being of "remarkable quality."

The last of those arrested is a 66-year-old man wanted by the Russian authorities for fraud, which carries a sentence of 10 years in prison for that type of crime. He is accused of a crime of fraud for a figure close to 700,000 euros of public money in Saint Petersburg, where he was head of an engineering company.

This man was also found in Arona, where he lived with his family, and it was in the vicinity of his own home that the agents managed to confirm his presence and detain him.

All three men have been charged accordingly and the corresponding paperwork is been processed by the authorities for deportation back to their own countries.
