Strong northeasterly winds expected in the Canary Islands this Friday

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a weather forecast warning of strong northeasterly winds likely to affect the Canary Islands today, Friday, particularly during the afternoon.

These winds could bring very strong gusts to the lower altitudes on the south-west and north-west slopes of the mountainous islands.

Cloud cover is expected to dominate the northern areas of the archipelago, especially during the early morning and evening. There is a chance of occasional drizzle and showers in these areas, mainly affecting mid-altitude areas overnight. Elsewhere, the weather is expected to remain mostly clear, with some high cloud present.

Meanwhile, sea conditions will be rough, with north or northeast winds ranging from force 4 to 6, occasionally easing to force 3 along the northern coast. The southern and south-western coastlines will see lighter, variable winds with calm or slightly rippled seas and occasional breezes.
