VIDEO: Man arrested in south Tenerife after smashing car with dumbbell and threatening locals with knife

A 33-year-old man has been arrested by Local Police in Guargacho, in the south of Tenerife, after repeatedly hitting a parked Volkswagen car with a dumbbell, threatening a resident with a knife, and violently resisting police officers.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of 9th June, leading to police deployment after several emergency calls were received from concerned residents.

According to witnesses, the man was seen repeatedly smashing a parked car with a dumbbell, causing significant damage. When the vehicle’s owner confronted him, the suspect allegedly threatened to kill him while brandishing a knife, forcing the man to leave and take refuge in his home.

When Local Police arrived at the location given, the suspect had gone to his apartment and continued his aggressive behaviour by shouting serious threats and insults from the balcony. At one point, he exited the property and attempted to physically assault the police officers. Despite his physical strength and determined resistance, they managed to subdue and arrest him before he could re-enter his home.

An ambulance was dispatched to the scene, and medical personnel determined that the individual should be transferred to the psychiatric unit of the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria University Hospital for further assessment.

The Arona Council and the Local Police Department have praised the rapid and professional response of the officers involved, highlighting their dedication and commitment to public safety.

An investigation is ongoing, and the man faces multiple charges, including criminal damage, making serious threats, and assaulting and resisting law enforcement officers.
