DJ party disbanded as encouraging people to interact without health protocols

The Guardia Civil have disbanded an illegal party in the early hours of the morning in La Palma, which had over 50 people in attendance with DJ’s, tents, bars, dancing, no masks, no distancing, and previous permission for it to be held.

Currently there is still a ‘grey’ area regarding entertainment, but it’s easy to see that events such as this encourage people to mix, encourage people to dance, encourage people to sing, as opposed to having an act on a stage, or in a designated performance area, which people can enjoy whilst seated, and observing health protocols that are still very much in place.

This party was being held in the Fajana de Franceses of the municipality of Garafía in La Palma, as reported by the Benemérita (Guardia Civil), and agents were called to the area after residents heard music late at night and officers found thirty vehicles parked in this isolated area.

They went on foot to the ‘party area’, where the participants were caught dancing and drinking while music played from a powerful sound system installed by the party organizer DJ, powered by generators, with tents set up at the site, with a large amount of alcoholic beverages and garbage spread on the ground, no social distancing or masks being worn (although people put them on when they realised the police were there!).

The event was disbanded and reported to the competent health authority, considering that such conduct constitutes violations of Decree Law 14/2020, of September 4, which establishes the sanctioning regime for non-compliance with prevention and containment measures against the Covid-19, along with new Decrees for the implementation and increase of fines for events or parties that encourage people to interact.

Specifically, the Guardia Civil commented that the 'participants' in the party face penalties of up to 3,000 euros each that will be resolved by the competent judicial authority, and the organisers up to 60,000 euros each as the instigators.
