New roads open in Las Chafiras today to alleviate traffic jams

Last week the exit and slip road from the TF-1 motorway into the new Oroteanda roundabout in Las Chafiras was opened, giving drivers heading to the industrial area from the south a new exit to the area and easing traffic at the main junction. Today the new roads under the motorway will come into service helping reduce traffic jams in one of the busiest areas in the south of Tenerife.

The Minister of Public Works for the Canary Islands Government, Sebastián Franquis, and the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, will attend the partial inauguration of the new junction, known as the  Oroteanda junction, this morning with the mayor of San Miguel de Abona, Arturo González, next to the South highway.

This new construction will alleviate traffic jams in the area giving a better flow, with four main service roads (two entrances and two exits) from the Oroteanda roundabout, which will be connected to the TF-1 motorway.

Since last Thursday (December 23rd), drivers were already able to use one of these roads, the exit from the TF-1 that connects the highway with Guargacho, Las Rosas, and Las Galletas, without the need to use the Las Chafiras exit or go via Parque de la Reina.

This exit was opened early on purpose to avoid queues on the hard shoulder of the TF-1 during the Christmas season, because Las Chafiras is an area of great commercial activity during this time.

Following this, the work will intensify to link the two junctions together with roads that run parallel to the motorway, and of new extended slip roads at the main Las Chafiras junction, as you can see from the image above.
