Man threatens to kill police by blowing up a gas cylinder in Santa Cruz

The National Police have arrested a 27-year-old man in the Sobradillo neighbourhood of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, who is charged with attacking his mother and sister and then threatening to blow up a bottle of butane gas to ward off police officers.

According to a police press release, the man physically attacked and threatened his mother and sister with a kitchen knife, causing various damages to the home, which is why the Police were called by neighbours after hearing a noise.

On seeing the police, the man ran away to escape and went into another apartment in the building, with its residents inside, where he tried to evade them by locking and blockading the door, and then threatening to kill everyone by blowing up a butane gas cylinder.

Once the National Policemen, thanks to the fire service, were able to gain entry to where the man was hiding, they managed to capture and handcuff him without causing injury to any of those involved in the police intervention.

After being transferred to the station, together with the police report, he was made available to the competent judicial authority for sentencing.
