The medical union has released a statement this afternoon after yesterday's protests by ‘anti-vaxxers’, voicing their concern about the saturation in hospitals due to the increase in Covid cases, an awareness campaign for vaccines, and their desire for more extreme measures if people continue to ignore restrictions.
In today’s statement, medical staff ask: “If the section of people who are against vaccines and who ignore restrictions don’t care about the lives of doctors and their families, why should health personnel sacrifice themselves for the lives of these ignorant, undisciplined, thoughtless, foolish, reckless, selfish people?”
“What would happen if, in the face of the ignorance of these people, all health personnel decided to leave the hospitals? Who is going to take care of you then?” they added, understandably outraged by the situation.
Health workers themselves have taken to social media to support the statement asking: “Why do we have to put our lives and families at risk for you and yours. We are directly affected by your irresponsibility and recklessness? Do you think the only life that matters is yours and your family’s?”
“Valuable servants of the health sector have died, honourable and good people, people who gave everything to maintain your health, people of value to society, brothers by profession, people who should not die, people who died looking after you.”
“Companions died breaking their backs giving their hearts and souls to make you better, do you think this is fair? And yet you go to the bar, you have parties, and you go on smoking, and all this not wearing a mask, or you put it under your nose or even under your chin to talk on your mobile phone.”
Many point out that health sector staff are physically and mentally exhausted and above all disappointed by the lack of empathy from the vaccine deniers. One added, "This is a desperate cry for help for my colleagues who are on the front line on this battlefield, for them and for their families... enough is enough!!!! The behaviour of some parts of society who are ignoring restrictions is a mockery for health personnel. It’s unbelievably sad.”
The medical union is asking their fellow doctors, nurses, and health personnel, to group together against this part of the population, and "support making our voice heard, that of health personnel united, the voice of the people."
