For nearly three decades, Music Hall Tavern (MHT) has been entertaining holidaymakers across the Canary Islands. Now branded simply as MHT, the company has been quietly undergoing one of its biggest transformations yet.
Since taking ownership in 2023 through MHT Shows Tenerife SL, Joel Broad and Richard Shattock have focused on something far bigger than simply producing a nightly show. Their aim has been to modernise the business while protecting everything audiences have loved about MHT for generations.
Like many businesses within the tourism and entertainment sector, 2026 has presented its own challenges. Holidaymakers are increasingly leaving bookings until the last minute, spending habits continue to evolve, and attractions across the islands have all had to adapt to a very different customer journey.
Rather than resisting those changes, MHT has embraced them. "Tourism is constantly evolving and so are we," explains Joel. "We've learned that you can't simply rely on what worked ten years ago. You have to keep investing, listening to your guests and finding ways to improve every part of the experience."
That investment has been seen across every island.
In Tenerife, MHT's move back to the iconic VIVO Show Bar has proved to be a defining moment. After facing an uncertain future in 2025, the move created a fresh start for the production and has allowed the show to continue growing in a venue that perfectly complements the MHT experience.
Meanwhile in Lanzarote, guests have enjoyed the biggest refurbishment project undertaken by the company in recent years, creating a more contemporary venue while improving both the customer experience and backstage operations.
Both islands now continue with four performances every week throughout the winter season.
Perhaps the most ambitious project of all has been Gran Canaria.
After more than six years without a permanent MHT production, many questioned whether the show could successfully return.
Joel and Richard viewed it differently. "We never saw Gran Canaria as bringing back an old show," Joel explains. "We saw it as rebuilding MHT for a new generation."
Launching at the renowned Garbos Theatre, the production has steadily grown throughout 2026, with increasing support from hotels, excursion companies, local businesses and returning guests.
Shelley Foster and Nicola Wyatt from the MHT Sales Team believe that patience has been key. "People often think because MHT had been in Gran Canaria years ago that it would simply return overnight. The reality is this has been a complete rebuild. Every week we've welcomed new partners, new audiences and seen confidence continue to grow."

The current season concludes on 9th September, before Gran Canaria enters its planned winter break slightly earlier than usual, allowing the company to prepare for another busy period elsewhere.
Bookings have already opened for the 2027 season, which begins on 3rd March, with a brand-new production already in development.
Away from the Canary Islands, another major milestone awaits.
October sees the launch of the fifth edition of the MHT UK & Ireland Roadshow Tour, this year titled "Viva La Fabulous".
Rather than following the traditional theatre circuit, Joel created the Roadshow Tour with a different vision.
"I've often been asked why we don't perform in the larger theatres any more, but that was never the direction I wanted to take MHT."
"Our audiences love the closeness of cabaret. By performing in community venues, social clubs and local halls, we're keeping that traditional British cabaret atmosphere alive while taking MHT back to the people who first fell in love with it."
With more than 60% of tickets already sold before opening night, the tour continues to grow year after year and has become an important extension of the MHT brand beyond the Canary Islands.
The company is also continuing its involvement within the local community, supporting organisations including Live Paws Dog Charity while working alongside a number of independent businesses across Tenerife, including the recently reopened Ruby Slipper House of Fun.
Looking ahead, 2027 will mark another significant milestone as MHT Shows Tenerife SL celebrates five years since taking over stewardship of the MHT brand.
"It's been challenging, exciting, exhausting and incredibly rewarding," Joel reflects.
"We've learned so much over these first five years, but honestly, I still feel like we're only getting started. We have so many ideas for the future, both here in the Canary Islands and beyond, and I genuinely believe the best chapters of MHT are still ahead of us."
