Cases continue to increase: 250 positives and 4 deaths in the Canary Islands

The Ministry of Health has released the latest data for coronavirus in the Canary Islands, which show that there have been 250 new cases detected and 4 deaths in the last 24 hours of which 3 were in Tenerife and 1 in Gran Canaria. Tenerife had the most new cases again with 122 and Gran Canaria followed with 104.

With Easter on the horizon, and with the possible influence of the carnival period, the total number of cases in the archipelago has reached 42,975 since the start of the pandemic, and it is because of this upward evolution of the contagion curve that the Canary Islands Government announced new measures and restrictions for Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura in Level 2.

Lanzarote, the only island that lowered its alert level this week to 2, added just 7 new positives today, and is unaffected by the extra restrictions due to their favourable data. Fuerteventura has 8 new cases, while in the western province, La Palma registers 9 more cases, while La Gomera and El Hierro have no new infections.
