Yellow weather warnings remain in place for five Canary Islands this Monday

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has extended yellow weather warnings in five of the Canary Islands for today, Monday, the eve of San Juan.

Strong winds and rough seas are expected to affect parts of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro.

According to AEMET’s latest update, wind gusts could reach up to 70 kilometres per hour in several areas, particularly during the evening and overnight hours.

Forecast by island:

GRAN CANARIA
Strong northeast winds are expected in the east, south and west of the island, with particularly strong gusts along the southeast and northwest slopes and on exposed peaks. Coastal warnings are in place for the west and southeast of Gran Canaria, and in the Anaga-Agaete and Jandía-La Isleta channels, where winds could reach force 7 (50-61 km/h) at sea.

TENERIFE
Strong winds are forecast for the east, south and west of the island, with powerful gusts expected along the southeast and northwest slopes overnight. Coastal warnings are also in place for offshore areas, including the southeast of Tenerife and the marine channels.

LA PALMA
In the west of the island, strong northeast winds are expected to impact the southeast slopes and the far northwest, especially overnight.

LA GOMERA
Very strong northeast gusts are forecast for the southeast and northwest slopes, as well as exposed peaks, mainly at night. Offshore, wind speeds could also reach force 7 in the west.

EL HIERRO
Similar conditions are expected, with strong northeast gusts affecting southeast slopes and the far northwest of the island, particularly at night. Offshore, northeast winds could also reach force 7.

AEMET continues to monitor the situation as celebrations for San Juan approach. Both residents and tourists are advised to exercise caution, particularly in exposed coastal areas, mountain routes, and while participating in any outdoor activities, especially at night when the strongest gusts are expected.
