32-year-old man dies after being pulled unconscious from the sea in south Tenerife

A 32-year-old man died after being pulled unconscious from the sea at La Tejita beach in the south of Tenerife yesterday afternoon, Sunday, despite extensive attempts by medics to resuscitate him.

According to the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), they received several calls at 1:50pm, reporting that a swimmer had been brought out of the water unconscious at the popular beach in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona.

Attempts to save his life were unsuccessful

Emergency medical teams were immediately dispatched to the location given, and when paramedics arrived, they found the 32-year-old in cardiorespiratory arrest and immediately began basic and advanced CPR to revive him.

A semi-automatic defibrillator was also used as emergency teams continued their efforts, however, despite their attempts, they were unable to resuscitate the man and could only confirm his death at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding how the man got into difficulties in the water have not been specified.

Popular beach in the south of Tenerife

La Tejita is one of the best-known natural beaches in the south of Tenerife, situated close to El Médano and next to Montaña Roja on the south east coast of the island.

The beach is popular with both residents and tourists, particularly during the summer months.
