A 43-year-old Filipino woman found dead on Three Kings’ Day at her home in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was allegedly murdered by her husband, who is believed to have taken his own life afterwards, according to initial findings by the National Police and the duty court.

According to information released by the TSJC, the victim identified as Czarina C, had previously appeared in Spain’s gender violence protection system, Viogén, following an alert triggered by incidents reported in 2024. A prior complaint against her husband, a 35-year-old Filipino national, was registered but later archived.

Complaint withdrawn in 2024

The High Court confirmed that on 12th June 2024, Czarina attended a Violence Against Women Court in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where she stated that she did not wish to file a formal complaint.

At that hearing, she denied having been assaulted, said she was not afraid of her husband, and declined both a forensic medical examination and a restraining order.

During those proceedings, her husband exercised his legal right not to testify.

Bodies found at family home

The bodies of both individuals were discovered on 6th January 2026 at the couple’s shared apartment on Calle Bernardo de la Torre, in the capital of Gran Canaria.

While official confirmation is still pending, investigators believe the case may represent the first gender-based killing of the year in the Canary Islands.

For now, and until the Violence Against Women Court formally takes over the case, the TSJC has confirmed that the investigation remains under judicial secrecy.
