Two teenagers arrested for throwing rocks at moving cars on the motorway

The Guardia Civil have detained two teenagers aged 15 and 16 years old in Agüimes in Gran Canaria, for 33 different crimes of damage to vehicles, danger to road safety, and causing personal injury by throwing large stones and rocks at moving cars on the GC-1 motorway.

In a press release the Guardia Civil explain that they received several complaints from people reporting that two teenagers were throwing rocks at their cars between kilometres 20 and 21 on the southbound carriageway from the side of the road, and were then fleeing if they slowed down.

In addition, one of the complainants stated that a large stone had hit him on the arm after breaking the windscreen of his car, causing an injury that needed hospital treatment.

Following this, the Guardia Civil opened an investigation to clarify the facts, compiling all kinds of evidence from the denuncias, and as a result, with the collaboration of the Local Police, the two teenagers were apprehended.

Even though they are minors, they face the criminal consequences for such acts and the civil liability for the repair of the vehicles involved, an amount that exceeds 7,000 euros. The proceedings are being carried out by the Prosecutor for Minors of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
