A British man, aged around 75-years-old, has been found dead at his home in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, after concerns were raised when he failed to respond to contact made by a friend.

The emergency services were alerted at approximately 8:00am this morning (Monday), and were sent to a property in Calle Bergantín in the popular tourist resort.

According to the Lanzarote Security and Emergencies Consortium (EMERLAM), the alarm was raised after someone became concerned because the man was not responding to their calls.

Firefighters were sent to the property along with officers from the Guardia Civil and Local Police, as well as an ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service.

Emergency personnel entered the home and found the man inside. Medical staff subsequently confirmed that he had died.

The deceased has been identified as British and approximately 75 years old.

Enrique Espinosa, manager of the Lanzarote Security and Emergencies Consortium, said the man lived alone and was known to have existing medical problems.

There is currently no indication that his death is being treated as suspicious.

The Guardia Civil attended alongside the Local Police, as is standard procedure when a person is found dead at a property and the circumstances need to be formally documented.

No further information has been released regarding how long the man may have been at the property before the alarm was raised.

His identity has also not been made public.

Costa Teguise is one of Lanzarote's main tourist resorts and is also home to a substantial international community, including many British residents and property owners.

The resort, on the east coast of the island, is particularly popular with British and Irish holidaymakers and has a large number of apartments and residential properties alongside its hotels and holiday complexes.
