The Canary Islands are experiencing another record-breaking summer season, with more international visitors than ever and hotel prices rising at the fastest pace in Spain. Figures published this week by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) reveal that July 2025 saw a 9% year-on-year increase in hotel prices across the archipelago, well above the national average of 5%.
The boom is reflected not only in room prices but also in revenue. Average daily rates (ADR) reached €140 per occupied room, up more than 5% in July 2024, while revenue per available room (RevPAR) climbed to €116 thanks to strong occupancy levels.
More tourists than ever
Tourism promotion agency Turespaña has also confirmed that between January and July 2025, 9.2 million international tourists visited the Canary Islands, an increase of more than 450,000 compared to the same period last year, or a rise of 4.9%.
If the trend continues, 2025 will mark the third consecutive year of record-breaking visitor numbers, despite earlier talk of a “tourism ceiling” being reached in 2024.
Tourism remains the Canary Islands’ most important industry, accounting for more than 35% of regional GDP. The continued growth in arrivals, particularly from the UK and Germany, which together make up over 40% of foreign overnight stays, emphasises its economic strength, even as concerns are raised about sustainability and pricing.
Wider national picture
Across Spain, hotel occupancy averaged 70.6% in July, with weekend stays reaching 75.2%. The Balearic Islands recorded the highest occupancy rates overall, while Barcelona, Madrid, and Calvià were the busiest tourist hotspots.
In terms of international markets, the UK once again topped the list, representing 26% of foreign overnight stays nationwide, followed by Germany with 14.5%. France, the Netherlands, and Italy completed the top five.
Prices and demand are rising in tandem
With demand showing no signs of slowing and the islands continuing to attract millions of visitors each year, hoteliers in the Canaries have been able to command record rates.
For residents, this highlights the continued dominance of tourism in the local economy, while for visitors it demonstrates both the popularity of the destination and the increasing cost of enjoying it.
