The dead body found at waste management plant is identified

The dead body of the man that was found in the Juan Grande waste management centre in Gran Canaria yesterday morning, has already been formally identified as a well-known homeless person in Las Remudas called Raúl, who was in his 40s and helped to park cars in the streets of San Gregorio.

Initial investigations suggest that he was asleep in the container where he was found, and either suffered a natural or accidental death after falling into the garbage truck, because his body does not have any external injuries.

After passing through the weigh-bridge at the entrance to Eco Parque Sur, the truck that was transporting the grey bin in question emptied its contents into the feeding pit of the ‘All-in-One’ part of the plant.

It was there that Raúls body was discovered, but at first he was mistaken for a large doll, and passed through several filters in the plant before reaching the conveyor belt where it became clear that it was a corpse and the alarm was raised.

Residents of Las Remudas have confirmed that Raúl hasn’t been seen in the area since Wednesday, and have said that he was known to sometimes sleep in the grey bins.

The directors at Eco Parque Sur have given compassionate leave to the operators who discovered his body at the plant.
