The Guardia Civil will lead a “macro search” from 9:00am today (Saturday) for Jay Slater after asking for volunteers to join them in the Masca area on the west coast of Tenerife.
To be clear, they are not asking members of the public, but people from volunteer associations or qualified who are experts in the rugged terrain. The area is a rugged, rocky area, full of slopes and with a multitude of ravines, paths and roads.
The meeting point will be the Cruz de Hilda viewpoint in Masca, and the search will be coordinated by the Guardia Civil in a "logical and orderly manner” covering the multitude" trails and ravines in the enclave and in Los Carrizales.
19-year-old Jay Dean Slater disappeared on June 17th. The search has been expanded to other areas beyond the Masca ravine, where he was geolocated for the last time before his mobile phone ran out of battery.
Dogs specialised in searching for missing people in large areas of land, belonging to the Canine Service of the Guardia Civil, have been sent from Madrid to join the search for him.
British media have reported on a “possible sighting” of him in Santiago del Teide and have released a blurry image from a webcam in which the silhouette of an apparently young person can be seen walking away from the place where the trail was lost, but this hasn’t been officially identified as him as yet.
