The DANA makes its presence felt across the Canary Islands

DANA, the meteorological phenomenon characterised by its strong winds and heavy rains, has already made its presence felt in the Canary Islands, particularly in Tenerife. The island has been under a yellow warning for wind across various regions including the metropolitan, east, south, and west areas since yesterday.

The effects of DANA became evident when strong winds, reaching speeds of up to 70 kilometres per hour, led to the fall of a palm tree onto a road in Santa Cruz yesterday afternoon (Thursday), damaging a parked car on Calle Acorán.

The adverse weather conditions have also resulted in significant traffic disruptions, with congestion reported on major routes such as the TF-1 and TF-5 motorways during the early hours of this morning. Tacoronte and La Laguna experienced traffic jams due to heavy rain, while Tabaiba faced similar challenges.

The south of the island experienced rain on the east coast yesterday afternoon and the south had strong winds yesterday evening and throughout the night. However, according to forecasts by AEMET, the wort is yet to come.

They predict that the DANA will persist into next week, bringing more rain over the weekend along with the possibility of thunderstorms. Authorities are advising residents and visitors to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate potential risks posed by the adverse weather conditions.
