The National Police are investigating a disturbing case of alleged bullying and assault involving a child in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in the south of Gran Canaria. The incident took place in the Bella Vista residential area, where a boy was surrounded in the street by a group of around ten teenagers. According to police sources, the group was led by a teenager already identified as the ring leader.
The assault happened earlier this week in a narrow side street, where the alleged bully repeatedly insulted and hit the victim, who appeared frozen and unable to defend himself. The entire episode was filmed by another teenager while several others shouted encouragement at the bully.
The five-minute video was widely circulated on social media and shows the attacker shouting at the victim: “What am I?” and forcing him to answer, again and again, “The boss and the f***ing master,” while referring to the boy as “little one” in a mocking and degrading tone.
Some members of the group can be heard asking the offender to stop and telling the one filming to put the phone away. Others laugh, cheer and urge the confrontation on. “Move out of the way, I don’t have space to hit him,” the alleged bully says, laughing. The frightened victim responds quietly: “I don’t want any trouble with anyone.”
At one point, he slaps away the victim’s hand to snatch away his mobile phone, while the boy remains unable to defend himself or even respond verbally. “Let’s sort this out like men,” he says. The victim pleads with him: “I’m not going to fight you. I can give you some money, but I don’t want to fight,” keeping his head down throughout.
The situation escalates when the attacker presses a cigarette butt towards the victim’s face, trying to force him to inhale. He mocks him, calling him “so tiny,” and even pretends he is about to burn his arm. Again, some teenagers urge him to stop, but others encourage the confrontation: “Just fight. Nothing else will happen. One round of two minutes or a slap-contest.” The boy repeats: “I don’t want to fight.”
Cornered against the wall, the victim is slapped several times as the bully laughs. Eventually, one teenager steps in, saying, “Can’t you see he’s scared?” In the background, a voice can be heard saying, “I’m scared,” capturing the child’s distress.
The victim’s parents have informed the National Police of their intention to file an official complaint. Officers have already identified everyone involved. Once the complaint is formally submitted, the case will be transferred to the Family and Women’s Unit (UFAM) at the Maspalomas Police Station, which will take over the investigation.
