The Canary Islands are set for a hot and increasingly summer-like weekend, with forecasters warning that temperatures could climb significantly next week as a potential heatwave develops across parts of Europe.

According to weather reports, light north-easterly winds will replace stronger breezes from today (Friday) onwards, bringing calmer conditions across the islands. Seas are also expected to remain relatively calm, with waves generally staying below one metre.

Residents and visitors in the Canary Islands can expect warm, sunny conditions throughout the weekend, with temperatures gradually rising as summer officially gets underway.

However, attention is already turning to next week, when weather models indicate a much more significant rise in temperatures. Meteorologists are monitoring what could become an unusually intense heat event for June, affecting large areas of northern Spain and southern France, with possible knock-on effects for the Canary Islands.

Current forecasts suggest temperatures could exceed 35°C in many parts of the archipelago between Thursday and Sunday next week if the developing weather pattern materialises.

While forecasts remain subject to change, the latest models point to a sustained period of very hot weather across the islands, raising the possibility of the first major heatwave of the summer season.

Visitors planning outdoor activities are advised to keep up to date with official weather forecasts over the coming days, stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours, and take extra care if travelling with children, elderly relatives, or pets.

The Spanish weather agency is expected to provide further updates as confidence in the forecast increases over the weekend.
