THURSDAY WEATHER: Calima returns to two islands bringing some strong winds
The Spanish Met Office (Aemet) are forecasting mostly clear or lightly cloudy skies across the Canary Islands today, Thursday, with temperatures remaining steady and moderate winds that will get stronger in some areas.
Light haze is expected in the north of Tenerife and La Palma, particularly in mid-altitude areas, although it should gradually fade during the day.
Overnight cloud will appear in the north of the mountainous islands below 600–700 metres, and early morning cloud is also expected in northern Lanzarote and eastern Fuerteventura.
Winds will blow from the northeast, at times strong on southeast and northwest slopes, with the possibility of very strong gusts. Breezes will dominate the southwestern coasts of the larger islands. On the summits, winds will be light from the east with occasional stronger intervals.
At sea, northeasterly winds of force 4 to 6 are expected, occasionally reaching 7, with moderate to rough seas and a 1–2 metre northerly swell.
Island-by-island forecast for Thursday 19th February 2026:
TENERIFE
Tenerife will enjoy a mostly sunny and settled day, with clear skies dominating across the island. Any cloud that appears will mainly affect the northeast, particularly below 700–800 metres, where overnight and early-morning cloud banks may linger for a few hours before gradually breaking up. No rainfall is expected anywhere on the island. Temperatures will stay very similar to recent days. Coastal areas will be comfortably mild through the day, while inland zones may experience a slight to locally moderate dip in temperatures, especially in valleys and higher rural areas once the early cloud clears.
Winds will blow from the northeast, generally moderate but strengthening on the southeast slopes and the far northwest of the island, where strong gusts are possible. The west coast will see gentler breezes, offering calmer conditions for beachgoers.
General temperature range: Low of 15°C with high of 23°C.
GRAN CANARIA
Clear or mostly clear skies with some mid and high cloud in the morning. Cloudier in the northeast below 700–800 metres overnight. Temperatures steady, with a slight drop inland and more noticeable cooling in higher areas. Moderate northeasterly winds, stronger on southeast and northwest slopes with possible very strong gusts. Breezes on the southwest coast; light to moderate easterly winds on the summits.
General temperature range: Low of 17°C with high of 22°C.
LANZAROTE
The island begins the day with some patchy cloud in northern and central areas, but skies will clear quickly by mid-morning, leaving a bright and sunny day across most coastal zones. The light early cloud may linger slightly longer inland, though no rain is expected anywhere on the island.
Temperatures will remain stable, making it feel pleasantly warm during the afternoon, especially on sheltered south and east coasts. Winds will be moderate from the northeast, occasionally fresh in more exposed areas such as Famara, Órzola, and the open stretches of the eastern coastline. These winds may create some localised blowing dust or hazy conditions, but nothing disruptive.
General temperature range: Low of 14°C with high of 21°C.
FUERTEVENTURA
Similar to Lanzarote, Fuerteventura will see some early morning cloud, especially in the north and along the eastern coast. This will clear rapidly, giving way to long sunny spells through late morning and the afternoon. Some slight haze may drift over the island but should remain light and temporary.
Minimum temperatures will rise slightly overnight, meaning a milder start to the day, while maximums may dip just a touch — though it will still feel warm in the sun. Northeasterly winds will be moderate but can pick up along open beaches and higher terrain, bringing rougher sea conditions on the east coast.
