The passage of an isolated high-level depression called a ‘DANA’, is passing through the northwest of the archipelago leaving snow in the Canary Islands above 2,000 metres. As forecast, the summits of Tenerife and La Palma woke up this morning (Wednesday) covered by a white blanket.

This weather is expected to last until the weekend with a further drop in temperatures, more rain, and more snow, according to the State Meteorological Centre.

As the clouds covering Teide are clearing, the first image of the volcano with a light covering of snow are coming through, but it has fallen heavier in El Portillo and in the Izaña area, where -2.8°C was recorded during the night, as you can see by the photo below.

According to the Cabildo de Tenerife, several access roads to the national park have been closed due to snow on the road.

Regarding the weather forecast for the rest of the day, Aemet shows that there will be mostly cloudy skies with occasional weak to moderate rain, mainly on north-facing slopes, and above 2,200 metres there will be more snow.

Temperatures could experience another drop as the week progresses, and the wind will be light to moderate and blow from the northeast, being more intense on northwest and southeast slopes.
